Organisation: Spina Bifida Foundation Victoria (SBFV)
Description: Spina Bifida is the incomplete formation of the spine and spinal cord. People with this condition have varying degrees of permanent disability. Research has shown however, that taking folate prior to conception and during the first three months of pregnancy can significantly reduce the incidence of spina bifida and other neural tube defects.

The aim of this Awareness Week is to educate the community about spina bifida and hydrocephalus and the importance of folate in the diet of women of child-bearing age.

Each year SBFV promotes Spina Bifida Awareness Week by hosting varioius activities.
